The trek from Rangdum to Lamayuru follows the most offbeat trail in Ladakh, rendering it ideal for those who wish to avoid the beaten tracks. The trek plunges into the remotest valleys of Ladakh, and through three different mountain passes. Rangdum is a beautiful high altitude plateau that lies in one of the most isolated areas of Suru Valley, almost right between Kargil and Padum. Fenced by magnificent hills and glaciers, the elliptical plateau is the origin point of the trek. Owing to the isolation from the common regions of Ladakh, the trail is trodden by only handful trekkers, who wander here seeking out the haunting beauty of the untouched nooks of nature. Besides breathtaking beauty, you also get to visit some of the themes of ancient and beautiful Buddhist monasteries. The splendor of Ladakhi villages magnifies your experience twofold.

We take a short detour to the beautiful Rangdum Monastery before actually beginning the trek. Then, we head towards the junction, following a gradual, easy trail that unfolds right beside a gurgling river. After about two hours, we reach the junction a beautiful campsite near the river, where we pitch our tents and camp for the night.
A splendor long trek today. We leave the campsite at Junction, and trace the path flanking the left side of the gorge, which ascends to the Kanji La Pass. The climb to Kanji La is gradual, and once at the pass, you’re treated to mind-boggling views of the surrounding Ladakhi Himalayas, dominated by the mighty Nun Kun peaks. Spend some time admiring the beauty, and drinking in the sweeping views of Ladakh, and start descending to the River Kong Nala. This will be our campsite for the night. Stay in tents.
We continue post a hearty breakfast. The trail unwinds beside yet another gurgling river, and massive rock walls and mountains loom into view. The view is strikingly different from the ones you’ve seen so far. Admire the beauty of the view as you approach Kanji, a quaint little village with beautiful views. Stay here will be in a homestay.
As the first pass day, this one will also be a bit long. We begin after breakfast and trek through a bridge that opens up along the river’s left side. Follow the trail that hugs the gorge, and begin ascending to Yokma La Pass. The climb is gradual, and you are rewarded with spectacular views of the Himalayas, yet again. Explore around for a while, and start descending to Shillakong, our campsite for the night.
The longest day of the trek. We begin early in the morning, as maintain a steady pace, as the altitude gain is considerable, and the trail is a bit challenging. The climb to Nyigutse La is a steep one, as well as a long one. But the pass leads to views magnificent enough to pale all your exhaustion. Admire the views for a bit, and then begin descending to the rustic village of Hanupatta. Overnight stay in a homestay.
A relatively short day today. We begin trekking along the river, and past the Phenjila village. Once we pass the village, we soon reach Wanla village, where we stay overnight in a homestay.
Last day of the trek today, and a short one. We stick to the trail tailing the gorge and climb up to Prinkti La Pass, a window to mesmerizing vistas of the landscape of Ladakh.
